The Company

Performances

The company repertoire is comprised of traditional African dance and drum, as well as abstract movement and contemporary dance. The ensemble creates and presents a spectrum of original choreographies accompanied by live percussion, and is available to perform at festivals, events, benefits, as well as corporate and private functions. A pre or post performance talk with the artistic director and members of the company can also be arranged.

Choreography

Members of the company welcome requests for commissioned work by other companies, individual artists and various cultural organizations. All requests are considered and individually selected by the artistic director.

Bantaba

"circle of celebration and unity"

ijo vudu's “Bantaba” program is designed to help enhance productivity and performance through a combination of drum, movement and stress management techniques. This unique program has been structured to counteract the stresses and demands of modern life and the work force, and was created with the specific needs of your employees in mind. This is the only program of its kind in Canada, combining traditional African rhythms and movement, with healing techniques such breathing, stretching and active visualization.

Ongoing drum and dance classes are available for children, youth and adults of all levels.

Private Lessons

A one on one session can be arranged, during which the instructor can assess the level of the student, and address their specific needs and challenges.

Drum and Dance Workshops

The company is available for workshops that can be customized in collaboration with the sponsoring organization.

Workshops for Seniors and Special Groups

Movement programs for senior citizens, academic instructors, and other special groups can be designed to meet the needs of the intended group.

Lecture Demonstrations

Demonstrations consist of a live performance by the artistic director and/or the company, followed by a lecture that concludes with a question and answer session. Topics include the significance of the costumes and instruments, the history and traditional significance of the music and dance, and the choreographic process and inspiration behind the work.

Choreography Workshops

Interested participants are guided through various exercises that will allow them to experience the process of creating and sequencing movement. They can explore various elements of the choreographic process, and will be given the opportunity to present their work and share their individual achievements and challenges in group discussions.

Residencies

Any of the above services can be combined with community outreach programs for educational purposes. The length of a residency is determined by the artistic director and the sponsoring organization. Performances can be arranged at the end of the residency.

Open Rehearsals

Audiences are invited to watch the company during an open rehearsal, usually the day before or the day of performance.

Costume and Mask Making

Interested in lerning on how to make traditional dance and drum costumes for your comapny, group or organization? ijo vudu have various professional  dance costume  petterns, styles and desings to suite your need. We also rent to dance companies, fashion industries, schools, models and individuals various modern and traditional  African cloths for any occations.
